In 1992, after a successful sales career overseas, Jim got into the executive search business by purchasing an MRI franchise at the age of 29. Since that time, he has developed a practice that specialises in the recruitment of executives & teams of engineers within the medical device manufacturing sector. Due to his uncanny ability to attract & deliver turnaround leaders, Jim has established himself as the industry’s “go to headhunter”. Starting as one of MRI’s youngest franchisees, Jim’s cumulative, personal billings now exceed $16.8M.

Previous to MRI, Jim enjoyed a successful business development career overseas in Europe where he developed his sales track record and business acumen. When it came time to make a career change, Jim didn’t want to work his way up through the corporate ladder nor be confined by internal politics nor location. “For the most lucrative positions, the window of opportunity had already closed, says Jim; as I was never going to be a doctor, lawyer nor investment banker and it was highly unlikely I would invent a product that would lead to wealth. But, like many of us, I had some skills, had the right attitude and I knew that hard work, combined with the right business would enable me to create the life style I always wanted”. However, on the verge of going at it alone, Jim was apprehensive. He was most anxious that launching a business in a totally new market while risking all of his hard earned investment capital on something that he didn’t understand nor know how to execute. For the eight years before opening his business, Jim lived in Germany and three other countries and worked in over 12. During that time, especially in Germany, he achieved a lot but also made his share of mistakes. “Germany shaped the early years of my business career….living overseas without being tethered to the States was a great challenge; both professionally and personally”, says Jim, “and I continue to have strong links to many friends and businesses in German…it’s a recognized leader in the Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industries. Germany is the most important market in Europe but its recruitment culture needs an engaged and proactive approach that leads to a ‘win-win-win’ outcome.
